There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of many borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that highlights many luxuries on top of the casino, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
