There is an interesting background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not legal. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel compound that contains numerous conveniences aside from the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight tables.
