There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is not permitted. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of comforts accompanying the casino, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 tables.
