There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not legal. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel compound that highlights numerous comforts accompanying the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
